San Francisco: Software Engineer | Accountant

Software Engineer

CC Software Engineers create, test, implement and maintain software for internal and external use by Creative Commons under the supervision of the CTO. This role will be a contract position. Local candidates will be preferred, although we may consider a remote working situation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze user specifications and requirements.
  • Encode, test, debug, and document programs.
  • Prepare technical specifications, test plans and programs of a highly technical or complex nature.
  • Write operational documentation.
  • Revise and update programs and documentation as required.
  • Investigate new technologies.
  • Support partners in the use of Creative Commons technologies.

Skill Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of Python, PHP, SQL, XHTML, RDF, Javascript, web services, software design, engineering techniques and best practices.
  • Excellent debugging skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux.
  • Excellent written and spoken technical communication.
  • Experience with developing User Interfaces.

Accountant

We are seeking a full-time accountant with the ability to manage all aspects of the accounting and finance for us, as a 501c3:

  • Reconciling and closing all monthly and quarterly financial records
  • Reconciling all accruals and updating financial records
  • Working with foreign and remote divisions/subs in consolidation
  • Paying bills and treasury/cash flow management
  • Preparing for various audits and annual tax returns
  • Coordinating money transfers to foreign divisions and subsidiaries
  • Reconciling between actual and budgeted information
  • Government accounting
  • Project accounting
  • Management of all grants and donations
  • Closely cooperate with various VP’s and Operations manager on numerous financial matters that are likely to be very diverse and varied in nature
  • Manage day-to-day responsibilities and work closely with CFO
  • Key skills and attributes

  • Good solid accounting skills built from good real time experience
  • Prefer CPA or at least accounting degree/qualification
  • Excellent work management skills
  • Impeccable integrity
  • Good communicator
  • Ability to solve problems and work with minimal direction
  • Quicken accounting software
  • Comfort with working with computers and new technologies for communication & information sharing

Reports to the CFO. Salary dependent on experience.
